School picnic a success
It was such a wonderful summer's evening at NCS on Tuesday and many Room 9 families came along to the annual school picnic. The children had a fun evening playing around the school and joining in the organised games.
Thank you School Community Group for organising the event and to Room 1 for their yummy cake stall.

Self Portraits, Room 9 style
At art time in Room 9 we learned how to 'fill' the paper with our image. We think these self portraits of the Room 9 students really capture the character of our tamariki.
Managing Self in Room 9
In Room 9 we have been practising and demonstrating the Key Competency of managing self. Discovery Time is a great opportunity for the students to do this.
We discussed what it looks like, feels like and sounds like. We know that we keep our hands and feet to ourselves, we stay calm when things go wrong, we use kind words to each other, we show respect and we always make good choices.

Room 9 had a great first week
All the students seem to have settled in to Room 9 wonderfully this week. I am really enjoying their enthusiasm and eagerness to learn what Room 9 is all about.
Room 9 is part of the Pohutukawa Syndicate, which is made up of 4 classrooms of Year 1 and 2 students. We meet regularly for assemblies, Wa Whanau and Syndicate events, such as Syndicate Sports and Singing.
We're looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible at the Meet the Teacher afternoon on Wednesday, 3.15pm straight after school. Bring along some afternoon tea and have your child show you around the classroom as well as hearing from me about the routines and expectations in Room 9.

We played Bingo and I-Spy to get to know each other and the classroom.
Swimming has been fun on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Our Syndicate is one big family and we love to meet up every week.
