Baby chicks visit Room 9

Room 9 had some very cute visitors this morning.  Scarlet allowed her three newborn chicks to come along and meet us all.  They are only 3 weeks old!

They are called Noodles, Tulip and Binky and Binky is the boss.  She is a barred rock hen and the other two chicks are Hyline hens.  They are really good layers and Scarlet will get about 20 eggs from each of them every month. 

We hope to have them back to visit at the end of the year when they are almost fully grown to see what they look like.  Thank you Laura and Scarlet for sharing your special feathery friends.

Tamariki Toa rehearsal

This afternoon Tamariki Toa were rehearsing and needed an audience so Pohutukawa and Kowhai Syndicates as well as a few Kahikatea classes were treated to some wonderful Kapa Haka.

Tamariki Toa are a group from Te Pouahi who are off to the National Kapa Haka competition early next term and are practising around the clock to be ready to represent Nelson Central School.  We think they already look slick and amazing - ka pai tamariki!

Room 9 sports - Hot Shots Tennis was a blast!

Over the last few weeks Room 9 students have been receiving the expert tuition of Nick from Nelson Hot Shots Tennis.  The children's skills on controlling the ball and racquet have come along.  Check out the photos below!

On Saturday 23rd September there will be an Open Day just for Nelson Central School students at the Nelson Tennis Club in Rutherford Park Complex.  A notice came home on Monday.  This is free to just NCS students and is on between 10am and 11am.  Go along and give it a try!

Te Reo Māori Language Week Wero

Last week the school were given a selection of challenges to attempt to celebrate and learn te reo Māori.  Room 9 embraced the 'wero' (challenge) and here are some of our efforts!

We also had a challenge to make up a kanikani (dance) to a really great waiata.

We also designed posters to go around the school to promote looking after our environment.  Keep an eye in the foyer for the top three entries from our Syndicate - we think we'll be there!

We hope you enjoyed watching our challenges as much as we enjoyed doing them.
